 Meet the Medwins

Our story

In 1976, we became life partners. Two careers, two kids and five grandkids later, we are now mostly retired and have started a different kind of partnership. It is called Medwin Fiber Art where we create and sell unique embroidery pieces using all the craft and technology skills we have accumulated over our lifetimes.

Together, we have joined our backgrounds from our careers as engineer and rabbi, to create visual fiber art. It started as a hobby offering our creations to family members. Based on the reactions we received, we decided to turn our love of fiber art into a business and make our work available to others. We truly enjoy working together as a team, combining and refining our ideas to create the items that are now available to you. Every once in a while, one of us will get up from our machine and walk over to the other for consultation, advice, or collaboration. Sometimes we will “call” a business meeting. If you enter our home, you can hear both our embroidery machines, a sewing machine, and a 3D printer all whirring simultaneously as we create what is in our hearts and turn it into art.

Enjoy your visit to our website and please let us know if you have any questions.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Judaica

Exodus 15:2 tell us, “This is my God whom I will glorify.” Rabbi Ishmael explains that one way to glorify God is the way we perform mitzvot. We do this with Hiddur Mitzvah, beautifying Jewish ritual objects. Our souls become enriched through the beauty we add to the ritual objects that we use. Based on these teachings, Michele works to enhance the beauty in the ritual objects she creates using the colors and designs of machine embroidery and sewing.

Technology and Nature

Steve combines his love of nature with his love for creating beautiful works of art. His creativity is a dynamic balance between technology and art. Steve is experienced with 3D engineering design and likes to design organic images based on nature. Recently he has been using Artificial Intelligence (AI) art software to inspire some of his embroidery designs. This all comes together in the designs which are mounted in shadow boxes. The larger pieces are mounted in regular shadow boxes. The smaller ones are mounted in special acrylic shadow boxes. In these, the front is an acrylic photo frame with a 3D printed back leaving space for the artwork. Magnets hold everything together. The artwork is free standing lace made on an embroidery machine. The combination is unique and captures his diverse talents.
